Does it really matter what we believe? |

In response to the letter (in our local paper) last week on Matter of faith and whether it matters what we believe, and in response to I.Kirwan's dismissive letter may I make the following points.Firstly, if you believe as I do that Jesus died for our sins and that noone else did then that makes Jesus unique and we need to tell others about Him as a matter of urgency. If Jesus is the Saviour of the world and a person can only know God and find forgiveness and eternal life through Him then this is not an insignificant argument! Secondly, the essence of Christianity is a relationship with God. Religion is manmade, full of rules and regulations and terrible things have been and are being done because of people's religion.I did not become a Christian because of where I live or because of what my parents believed. In fact they were atheists! I became a Christian because somebody cared enough to share the Gospel with me and I looked into it and finally asked Jesus to be my Saviour. That was nearly forty years ago and I have grown in my relationship with Him ever since. Gratitude at Freedom of Speech |

In response to Mr Kirwan's letter (to the Redditch Advertiser), last week where he belittles Scripture, rubbishes Jesus and presumes to tell us that early Christians were a bunch of dimwitted storytellers, may I point out that whether he likes it or not we still live in this country under a Christian Constitution which for hundreds of years has given us democracy and freedom of speech. This is why people can write what they like about Jesus and the Bible without fear of reprisal. It is interesting though that it is always Jesus and the Bible that is attacked. If it is all such a myth why bother ?! The truth is that Christianity is based on solid facts, rooted in history, which anyone with an open mind can explore. They will find out that there are over twenty four thousand copies of New Testament manuscripts about Jesus' life, death and teachings going back to within thirty to forty years of the writer's death, backed up by secular historians of the day.By contrast we only have a very few manuscripts of the life of Julius Caesar, the earliest of which is from nine hundred years after his death, but we all believe he existed! The French philospher Voltaire boasted that within one hundred years of his death in 1728 the Bible would disappear completely. In 1778 the Geneva Bible Society took over his house and used his printing presses to print thousands of Bibles! It is still the world's best seller. The Cross and the Empty Tomb stand in history as facts. The only important issue is how we will respond to Jesus. Rev Andy Kelso Christ Church, Matchborough |

Betrayal of the Constitution |

Dear David Cameron, I am writing to you as the Leader of the Opposition with regard to the deep decline in the U.K which I believe is linked to the betrayal of our Constitution. It is said that abolition of the blasphemy laws will merely allow debate or criticism of the Christian faith. This is not the case as over the years there has been increasing ridicule and blasphemy against Christianity. Jerry Springer the Opera recently centred on humiliating Jesus Christ by casting His character as a sexual deviant. And this is the issue. The target of blasphemers is nearly always the person of Jesus. By abolishing the laws against blasphemy we will see the person of Jesus vilified and humiliated as never before. The hard-line secularists who are pressing for change make clear that abolition of the offence of blasphemy is just one step towards an atheist Britain in which Christianity is swept away. Whilst most M.P’s were debating blasphemy recently, three M.P’s slipped away to put down an Early Day Motion for the disestablishment of the Church of England. We could once pride ourselves on being a Christian nation, with Christian principles underpinning our laws. The Ten Commandments were the foundation of our nation and people knew the boundaries. Our constitution is still Christian. Every monarch since Edgar has been anointed by God to rule in the Name of Christ. On 2nd June 1953 Her Majesty the Queen was asked to make solemn promises. She promised to “maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel”. To reinforce that promise she was given the Bible as “the rule for the whole life and government of Christian princes”. The Queen was presented with the Orb with the words “Receive this Orb set under the Cross and remember that the whole world is subject to the power and Empire of Christ our Redeemer”. Her Majesty’s promise to maintain the Laws of God with the knowledge that Holy Scripture is the rule for Her Majesty’s Government has been broken time and again. To the nation that keeps God’s Law He promises social stability, economic well-being in manufacture, trade and agriculture, a strong family base, an absence of crime, the presence of justice and strength in foreign affairs. By contrast, the nation which rebels against God’s Law will find those areas of life cursed. And this is what we see in our nation. Since the 1950’s the passing of unrighteous laws in the U.K., in breach of her solemn coronation oath, has had exactly the effect prophesied in the Word of God. Laws have been passed in direct contravention to the Ten Commandments, which are God’s Laws for a righteous nation. Parliament at the beginning of every day in session prays to “Almighty God, by whom alone kings reign and princes decree justice, and from whom cometh all wisdom, counsel and understanding.” As soon as the prayer is finished Almighty God is pushed aside whilst the politicians get on legislating in their own authority and wisdom. Now we are on a slippery slope. The constant undermining of our Christian heritage has led to moral and spiritual darkness, because we have rebelled against God and His laws. I urge you to support the Blasphemy Law because if it is abolished the divorce of the Christian faith from the United Kingdom will soon be finalised, as more and more laws once based on Christian principles will be systematically changed until our constitution becomes secular and atheistic. Yours sincerely, Rev. Andy Kelso |

Archbishop of Canerbury on the inevitability of Sharia Law in the UK |

Dear Archbishop, I’m sure by now you’ve had a lot of correspondence about your comments on the Sharia Law episode. Apart from the fact that it would be ridiculous to allow one group of people to have a different law from the rest of us on some issues, I don’t think you understand the severity of the problem. The spirit behind Islam is one of domination and control. Those who are called fanatical are being true to the Koran. This is no such thing as moderate Islam. The desire of Muslims is the jihadic goal of global Islam. Islamists intend to overthrow our democracy and your comments are meat and drink to them. The evil intent of global Islamic jihadism with its determination to impose Sharia law on subject nations makes it impossible for us to “lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” (1 Timothy 2: 2) Your call surely is to seek the conversion of Muslims and non-Muslims alike. They all need to hear the life-transforming message of the Gospel. Islam is a false religion leading people into deception and bondage. The Gospel of Jesus is the only Truth that can set people free, and your commission, like mine, is to proclaim that Truth whatever the cost. Only Jesus gave His life for our sin. Muammed didn’t. May I respectfully suggest that you preach the Gospel or step down. Yours sincerely, Rev. Andy Kelso |

Like so many people in this country I am horrified about what is happening. The list is endless and grows daily. We are finding ourselves to be living in an increasingly fascist state where the government wants to control your life. But we need to face up to the truth as to why we are in this situation and how we can overcome it. Believe it or not our constitution is still Christian. Every monarch since Edgar has been anointed by God to rule in the Name of Christ. At her coronation service in June 1953 the Queen was asked to make solemn promises. She promised to " maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel." To reinforce that promise she was given the Bible as " the rule for the whole life and government of Christian princes." The Queen was presented with the Orb with the words " Receive this Orb set under the Cross and remember that the whole world is subject to the power and Empire of Christ our Redeemer." Her Majesty's promise to maintain the Laws of God with the knowledge that Holy Scipture is the rule for Her Majesty's Government has been broken time and again. To the nation that keeps God's Law He promises social stability, economic well-being in manufacture, trade and agriculture, a strong family base, an absence of crime, the presence of justice and strength in foreign affairs. By contrast, the nation which rebels against God's Law will find those areas of life cursed. And this is what we see in our nation. Our politicians have failed us as have our Church leaders, especially the Archbishop of Canterbury with his recent idiotic commments on the need for Muslims to have some aspects of their Sharia law here. But the responsibility for the state of our nation rests with each one of us and the only answer to find God's favour again lies in true repentance. Each one of us needs to ask God's forgiveness that as individuals and as a nation we have disobeyed His Laws and turned our backs on Him. If we would do this then we would know God's blessing again as a nation. Rev Andy Kelso Vicar. Christ Church, Redditch. |

Hypocrisy and Incompetence |

The hypocrisy and incompetence of this government is staggering! The courageous widow of a man kicked to death by thugs in Warrington spoke of the growing violence on our streets and people's despair at what is happening. Yet our Home Secretary says there is no breakdown in society only tragic events and then admits she wouldn't want to walk on the streets of London at night. Most people in her constituency don't want to walk alone at night but some have to.Then we have Labour's deputy leader stating that we all need to learn the lessons of the terrible crime of Garry Newlove's death. How long will this take? What hypocrisy! Every cause of Britain's youth violence is the result of this government's failure-24 hour drinking, downgrading of cannabis, lack of police on our streets, an obsession with the human rights of criminals over the rights of victims, and an undermining of the family and family values. Only when enough ministers and MP's are mugged or kicked to death will we really see any radical legislation. Rev Andy Kelso Vicar. Christ Church, Redditch. |

At last a Bishop in the Church of England is willing to speak out! Dr Nazir-Ali voices what many know to be true that Islamic extremists are taking advantage of our politically correct government's policy on muticulturalism. There ARE no-go areas in England for non-Muslims and militant Muslims will not be satisfied until their flag flies over Downing Street and public calls for prayer are broadcast from every mosque in every town and city in the land.By the way, the Islamic call to prayer is an extolling of Islam, Allah and Muhammad above all else which is hardly on a par with the ringing of church bells To say such things is not racism or whipping up hatred against Muslims, which is the constant response from the Muslim Council of Britain, but pure fact. Militant Islam has a strategy for world domination and we are a soft touch. Unless more leaders like Dr Nazir-Ali speak out and the government acts we will find our democracy and our heritage taken over. Rev Andy Kelso - Vicar. Christ Church, Redditch. |

Shame on Our Archbishops! |

The Church has got the greatest message in the world which according to the Archbishop of Canterbury's Christmas address is " Go green and hug a tree," whilst the Catholic Archbishop's address is" Hug an immigrant." If this wasn't bad enough we have Rowan Williams stating that much of the Christmas story isn't true. This is the opinion of the Church of England's leader and the result is that other liberal clerics appear on our TV screens stating that most of the Christian faith is a myth and we just need to hold onto Jesus' teachings. Another priest stated on TV that the Virgin birth was impossible because it can't happen. These men are a disgrace to their calling which is to make the Gospel known, that God in His love sent His Son Jesus to be our Saviour. The birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies including the virgin birth. Jesus offers forgiveness of sin, hope, joy, peace and purpose to all who receive Him. That's the Christmas message our Archbishops should have been giving! Rev. Andy Kelso, Vicar, Christ Church Matchborough. |

Letter to Gordon Brown - Prime Minister |

Dear Gordon Brown, Along with many people, I am greatly concerned about the breakdown of family life in the nation and am thankful that Ian Duncan Smith has championed the cause of marriage, and especially the need for fathers. As you know, part of the proposed Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill wants to lift the requirement on IVF clinics to take into account a child’s need for a father when considering applications by single or lesbian women. This proposal reduces the role of a father to a mere sperm donor. But statistics and common sense state that fatherlessness lies at the heart of nearly every social ill our society faces, from educational failure to drug abuse to violent crime. Please speak up about this and allow M.P’s a free vote. As a father surely you agree with the vital necessity of fatherhood? Be willing to stand against the militant **** lobby. I would also like to bring your attention to a vital issue that goes a long way to explaining why this country is in such a mess. From before the reign of Elizabeth I up to the 20th century hundreds of Statesmen, Churchmen and spokesmen in Britain voiced a vision for the Restoration of the land and people of Israel. God chose Britain as His servant nation to shepherd Israel and because of this we have, in our history, been greatly blessed. When Palestine and Jerusalem fell into British hands in 1917 we had the responsibility and privilege of establishing a homeland for the Jewish people. The root sin and cause of Britain’s ongoing moral and spiritual decline is our failure to heed God and His Word and our failure to be the blessing to Israel that God had planned. After the Balfour Declaration of 1917 the British Government embarked on being obstructive to a restored Israel. 1. Instead of installing a Civil Administration in Palestine a Military Administration was sent from Cairo and they were against the return of the Jews. A local Islamic agitator, Haj Amin Al-Husseni, was appointed Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and this gave militant fundamentalist Islam a foothold in Palestine, resulting in the anti-Jewish legacy that persists to this day. 2. Britain failed to administer justice when Jews were murdered by Arabs. Following a massacre of Jews at Hebron Britain uprooted the entire Jewish population there, the oldest in the world. This was unjust and inhumane. 3. In direct contravention of the legal and moral obligations of the Mandate granted to Britain to establish the Jewish homeland, Britain restricted Jewish immigration while failing to regulate Arab immigration. This illegal and perverse policy resulted in the mass displacement of Arabs in 1948 when five Arab nations attacked Israel the day after its official recognition by the UN. It was from this policy that the longstanding so-called “Palestinian Refugee” problem emerged. 4. In its White Paper of 1939 and in contravention of the Mandate, Britain stated her policy of fostering a population with a two-thirds Arab majority and a one-third Jewish minority. This would make impossible an eventual Jewish administration of their own Homeland. 5. Britain’s continued policy of appeasing the Arabs led to the death of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Jews who could have had an escape route from Hitler’s “Final Solution”, through emigration to Palestine. 6. The White Paper of 1939 restricted Jewish immigration into Palestine to 75,000 over the following fiveyears. The League of Nations accused Britain of a flagrant breach of its Mandate. At a time when millions of immigration certificates were needed Britain failed to honour this commitment. After World War II thousands of survivors of the Holocaust were denied the right to return to their own land when they had nowhere else to go. 7. In the Post War years the British Government, opposed to a Jewish state, acted to make sure the state would not survive. They denied arms to the Jews and supplied arms to Egypt and Jordan. In May 1948 Britain stood back and allowed Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Saudi Arabia to attack Israel. The ratio was 40:1. Miraculously, Israel survived because of God’s promise to Abraham. Since our refusal to vote for Israel’s restoration at the UN in November 1947 we have been in moral, spiritual and social decline. This is in line with God’s Word in Isaiah Chapter 60 verse 12: “The nation that will not serve you (Israel) will perish. It will be utterly ruined.” Please take this seriously because anyone who goes against God’s Word and Will is a fool. You have been given a position of power to either co-operate with God or to go against Him. If you do not heed God’s Word then you and the nation will suffer. Your sincerely, Rev. Andy Kelso, Vicar, Christ Church Matchborough. |

Dear David Cameron, Firstly, can I thank you for some of the things you have been saying recently, which gives us hope for our nation if you were to become Prime Minister. The tragic story of Emma Gough, a Jehovah's Witness, who refused a lifesaving blood transfusion after the birth of her twins only highlights the dangers in such beliefs. Their belief in the Bible as the Word of God is based on their own version of it, the New World Translation. The passages they refer to preventing them from receiving blood transfusions have no basis in reality. They are actually about not eating meat with blood in it and not drinking blood which was a pagan custom. Jesus Christ gave His life-blood to pay the price for our sin, so that we do not have to be at the mercy of beliefs which can have such devastating consequences. Rev Andy Kelso Vicar. This weekend marks the 40th Anniversary of the Abortion Act and there will be a mass rally outside Parliament seeking to urge the Government to carry out a full review of the current law. Since the 1967 Act 6.7 million abortions have taken place and nearly 500 more are happening every day.The Archbishop of Canterbury suggests that we risk losing sight of the sanctity of life. The above figures do more than suggest this. They are a damning indictment of a society that has no moral or spiritual compass. A foetus is a life from the moment of conception, unique and special. In a few weeks we shall be remembering the millions who have lost their lives in war. What about the millions who were never given the chance of life at all ? Rev Andy Kelso Vicar. EU calls for ban on teaching Creationism |

Letter to the Daily Mail So Europe's Parliamentary Assembly has finally proclaimed itself God and called for the ban of teaching Creationism in schools. It has decided that the theory of evolution is based on facts even though it is still a theory. Following on from this the liberal-left BBC derided anyone who believed in Creationism on its Sunday morning programme wheeling in that fount of all knowledge Claire Short to attack a science teacher who dared to disagree. Well Ms. Short, learn some facts before you spout rubbish! The majority of the founders of modern science were Creationists. They realised that they were only thinking God's thoughts after Him.Science expresses the universe in five categories: Time, Space, Matter, Power and Motion. But in 1450BC Genesis 1:1-2 states:" In the beginning( Time), God created(Power), the heavens(Space), and the earth(Matter). And the Spirit of God was hovering(Motion) over the waters. Please tell me Ms.Short where did space for the universe come from? Where did the initial material come from? What sparked the explosion? You can't create something out of nothing so there can't have been a Big Bang! Please tell me Ms. Short why any animal would want to reproduce more of its kind since this would only make more mouths to feed and decrease the chances of survival? Charles Darwin acknowledged that his theory of evolution was wrong if no transitional life forms could be found. None have been found. Evolution is a pagan religion masquerading as science, which gives mankind the ability to dispose with God and accountability to Him. It's a belief-system for a godless society and that is exactly what we are. PS: You won't like this Ms. Short! The male needs the female to reproduce and vice-versa. So which came first O clever one? If each sex could reproduce without the other why and how would they have developed a reproductive system that requires both sexes to tango? |

3rd October 2007 Letter to Rt. Hon. Jacqui Smith M.P. I am writing to you to urge you to oppose the **** Rights activists call for an amendment to the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill. Under this amendment if passed I could get prosecuted and imprisoned for teaching that the practice of homosexuality is sinful. This is orthodox Christian teaching along with teaching that casual sex is sinful as well as sex outside of marriage. This has been taught for centuries and until forty years ago underpinned our morality. Such teaching has got nothing to do with inciting hatred. Christians are called to love people and at the same time to speak what they believe to be the truth. Christians would never support violent or intimidating behaviour against anyone and such behavior is rightly a criminal offence already. But I have a duty to teach God's Word as part of my calling to a cure of souls. This means that all people need to know that they are sinners before a holy God and if they are to know His love and forgiveness they need to repent and turn to Christ. Therefore I would be failing my oath as a priest before God and the Queen if I did not clearly state what the Bible says is sinful which includes homosexual practice. |

Channel Four's excellent documentary on the abuse of power in parliament made me think we all ought to vote for "None of these" when it comes to a General Election. It is quite staggering that so many of these MP's who are supposed to be serving the electorate are in fact self-serving hypocrites. They are using sky high expenses to pay off mortgages on second homes and avoid capital gains tax by fiddling the system. Any attempt to look into these outrages is met with rebuff as parliament has decided that it is outside the law that applies to the rest of us. On top of all this they have voted themselves gold-plated pensions and keep voting to top these up paid for by hard-working taxpayers, the very ones that Gordon Brown keeps squeezing. So Gordon Brown's promise to clean up parliament is a brazen lie as he and his henchmen know all about this and are involved in keeping the status quo. It makes me sick therefore to hear his latest promises given with a beatific "I'm the son of a clergyman" smile. We have lost our way completely when we cannot trust our leaders. We need leaders of integrity and truth who will call this nation back to honouring God and His commandments. In the Old Testament King Josiah tore his robes in repentance when the book of God's Law was found and read to him. He realised how far they had fallen morally and spiritually as a nation and he called the nation back to God and His Word. Where are the leaders who will do this? Rev Andy Kelso Vicar. How is it possible that so many people think Gordon Brown is rosy? Look at the facts! Educational standards are falling, the economy isn't as strong as advertised, the health service is failing thousands of people and law and order is in freefall. And then there is immigration! Over the last ten years this government has allowed more than a million new people from all over the world to settle here. Labour has lost control of our borders and we have a fractured society with increased strain on our NHS, our schools and our police.Of the three million new homes promised by Gordon Brown, which will eat away into what is left of our countryside, one million will have to go to immigrants. This decision was thrust on us without any consultation. Why? Well here's a thought! In the Mori's survey into the ethnic minority's attitude to voting at the 2005 election 58% voted Labour and 10% Conservative. Along with those on benefits who are workshy, and the criminally-minded who like a spell occasionally in our holiday camp open prisons, this means that Labour will have enough cast-iron votes to ruin this country forever. Most law-abiding, tax-paying citizens of this once great country are longing for a proper government. Labour have had ten years and we are in crisis. We are run by a bunch of liberal-minded, politically-correct ostriches! This lot have so much to answer for and to add to the list it's the increase in blood pressure amonst thousands of us. We pay our taxes so that police can patrol our streets and reduce crime. Wrong! They're tied up with red tape, and seminars on multi-cultural awareness and prejudice. We pay our taxes so that criminals serve proper sentences for their crimes and we all feel safer. Wrong! The government has refused to build more prisons so we have violent offenders released early. Not only so but these same offenders can buy their own cars to drive themselves to and from open prisons to paid jobs. They don't pay for their bed and board because we suckers the taxpayers do that. On top of all this we find out that only one in a hundred benefit cheats ends up in prison and yet there are thousands of them who are stealing from, guess who? The poor old taxpayer! So law-abiding, tax-paying citizens listen! Vote this lot out at the earliest opportunity and send your receipts for blood pressure tablets to Gordon Brown. The alternative is to give up work, go on benefits, and commit violent crime where you'll have a short spell in an open prison with all expenses paid. Mmm....sounds good! Rev Andy Kelso Vicar. Moral Chaos |

What hypocrisy! On the one hand the media and society cries out for the Church to take a lead on moral issues and then when it does it gets penalised and derided. The ruling against the Bishop of Hereford for turning down a **** man for a youth worker's post underlines this. The Bishop was complying with the teachings of the Church on sexual issues. He was not discriminating against **** people but making it clear that according to the Bible sex outside of marriage is wrong, and therefore a person in any position of leadership in the Church ought to be setting a standard in keeping with this morality. This is not as **** lobby groups state " 19th century prejudice" but the clear teaching of Scripture which is timeless and which is given to us for our good. It is society's insistence that people can live entirely as they like that has lead to our moral chaos. Rev Andy Kelso

Wake Up Call |

The brutal Hamas takeover of the Gaza strip in mid-June which included murders of wounded Fatah soldiers in their hospital beds in full view of patients and staff shows that Hamas fully ascribes to the radical Islamist doctrine of Muhammad's "Hijra". This is a staged programme That seeks to establish control under Sharia law. Firstly you focus on peaceful mission work recruiting people to your cause. Then you build up armed forces and engage in deception such as the supposed acceptance of the democratic process in order to strengthen your position. Finally you use violence to take over the state and impose Sharia law. This is what Hamas has done and this is what Hizbullah are doing in Lebanon. In this country Islam has moved into the second stage in order to gain positions of power.Appeasement and dialogue are seen as signs of weakness. When will we wake up before it is too late? This is not scaremongering. This is fact. Look at the world situation, read the Koran and the Hadiths. Wake up democratic Britain and the West ! Rev Andy Kelso |

Blair's funding of Imams |

The government's announcement that Islamic studies are " strategically important" to Britain's national interests and will therefore receive £1million of funding is an appalling error of judgement. Such misunderstanding of the true nature of Islam is further underlined by Tony Blair's statement that" the voices of extremism are no more representative of Islam than the use, in times gone by, of torture to force conversion to Christianity represents the true teaching of Christ." The use of torture by the Church was nothing to do with conversion to Christianity but sought to force people to become Catholics or Protestants. Sadly the voice of extremism IS the true voice of Islam. 1 out of every 55 verses in the Koran is a war verse intended to arouse Muslims to compel the conversion of non-Muslims to Islam, by violence if necessary. The Koran calls for the death of Christians and Jews and is a guidebook for dictatorial domination. If Islam is such a peaceful religion at heart as Tony Blair insists then why is there no democracy in any country ruled by Islam? Strange that isn't it! Rev Andy Kelso |

Panorama - Scientology |

Having watched the Panorama programme on the Church of Scientology and the furore over the BBC's presenter John Sweeney losing his temper, I was amazed that he didn't lose it far earlier! Their spokesman, Tommy Davis, underlined why Scientology is so dangerous and why it is most definitely a cult. If you dare to criticise them, or ask probing questions then you are intimidated, harassed, and come under their hate campaign. When children who have joined Scientology cut themselves off from their parents, even when they are dying, when people manage to leave this organisation and are then treated as lepers and criminals, and when those who seek to find out the truth about them are hounded, degraded, and in fear for their lives, then this is proof that Scientology is most definitely evil and a cult. Well done John Sweeney! Rev Andy Kelso Christ Church. Redditch, Worcs. |

No Democracy |

29th March, 2007 To: The Daily Mail The government's decision to rush through the Sexual Orientation Regulations without proper debate is a disgrace. They are determined to appease the Gay lobby and to make criminals out of those who have serious concerns. At a time when we remember people like William Wilberforce whose Christian faith stirred him to action, we are now told that our Christian convictions must be kept private. Under this proposed law I could be fined for teaching that sex is only for marriage between a man and a woman. This is what the Bible says and I believe it and will continue to teach it. Basically this government has put God and the Bible on trial and I for one will not back down. Rev Andy Kelso |

Complete series on Understanding Islam is now online |
| Posted: 03/16/07 06:14:05 | Member: (ReverendAndy) | Tag: Updates |

As Islam is such a force in the world today and an area where Christians need understanding if they are to be effective in preaching the Gospel my teaching series "Understanding Islam" ran to a total of five sermons which are now online. Because of the current climate surrounding Islam, particularly in the West, it is vital that you approach the information in this series in the way it was intended. Please read my comment below or at the beginning of the notes accompanying each individual sermon before proceeding. Comment by Rev Andy Kelso on the series on Islam The intention of this series is to examine Islam in the light of current events. It calls itself pre-eminent over all religions, with the Koran as God's pure and complete word, and Mohammed as God's last and greatest prophet. Is this true? In order to find out the answers we need to look at the history of Islam and its founder Mohammed and we need to see if the Koran preaches peace as Muslims state. Are radical Muslims a splinter group or are they fulfilling the Koran's teaching? The aim is to understand Muslims in order that we can have a heart of love towards them and engage in dialogue. I hope you will come to this series with an open mind. |

A new sermon from the series "Learning to Share Your Faith" has been added today. The title of this sermon is "Understanding Islam Part 1" and it is vital that this is listened to with an understanding of the intention behind the series. Bishops' Palaces |

To: The Daily Mail As a Church of England vicar I am appalled to see that the Church Commissioners are to spend an extra £9 million on bishops' costs this year, mainly on their housing. This money will be taken from funds for the mission of the Church which is an utter disgrace. If Jesus had lived in a palace then there might be justification for bishops' to live in them but Jesus had no home. People would take the Church far more seriously if these palaces were sold and the money used wisely. At a time when our society desperately needed to hear a clear moral statement on the Sexual Orientation issue our bishops are more interested in protecting their palaces. I apologize to churchgoers and non-churchgoers alike for this outrage. Rev Andy Kelso Vicar. Christ Church, Redditch.

Contempt for Marriage |

Andy is keen to bring a Christian perspective to current issues in politics and society. He therefore frequently writes to members of the government and both the local and national press. More recent letters will be published here, but for those interested a full archive of letters dating back to 2001 is available on the Christ Church Matchborough web site. To: The Daily Mail The role of Deputy Prime Minister is obviously for those with no morals and no common sense. Alan Johnson, who may step into John Prescott's post, has described tax breaks for marriage as "pernicious" which means evil. His contempt for marriage flies in the face of facts. Families are the bedrock of society and although many single parents do a great job statistics prove that a child is better off with a father and a mother.Fatherless children are much more likely to turn to drugs and crime which we are witnessing today. He obviously needs help from his own fatherless background from where his resentment at marriage stems from. Give us poor marrieds a break Mr Johnson or society will collapse! Rev Andy Kelso |
